This course will examine recent theories, interpretations and philosophies of history. It emphasizes Western thought but will allow students to look at the philosophers’ influence on historical writing in general and histories written by Filipinos in particular. The course is designed to study selected thinkers rather than provide a general sweep of all thinkers. It will not discuss the presentation or how to write history, but rather how history is interpreted. Presentation or the methods of writing history will be discussed in another course called Historiography.
